ABOUT - Janice Beaudoin
Janice a British Columbia based artist best known for her bold, playful paintings. She is primarily an abstract painter which is not to say that her work never veers towards representation. In her observations of the natural and built world around me, abstract shapes often fuse themselves with figurative elements that show themselves in unexpected ways. She is interested in creating paintings that refer to objects and places in the real world that are familiar but not always nameable.
Her process involves applying many layers of paint, using gesture, drawing elements and an internal sense of colour and design. Her compositions develop through a series of decisions that are both conscious and unconscious. With great sensitivity to the evolving colours and forms, a very personal abstract language emerges.
Influenced by great contemporary artists such a Amy Sillman, Richard Diebenkorn and Chuta Kimura, Janice synthesizes those influences to create work that is fresh and uniquely her own. Her work is in private collections throughout Canada and the US as well as in the UK, Europe, Australia, Lebanon, Singapore and Japan.
