36" x 24" - Acrylic on Wood Panel, Wired and ready to hang.
Silhouettes & Data Points Collection
I wanted to do something more minimal, quiet, monochromatic. I love the romance of softly layered whites. I’ve also been thinking about how to incorporate some of the figurative subjects matter into my abstract work and started to think about the social and affects of representing someone, the likeness of a person, in paint but then also sharing that likeness on a digital platform in this hyper-surveillance era. Is the self of the represented comprised in any way? What are the near term impacts on my relationship to that person? There are only partial answers to these questions of course. I think of this idea, the concept for this collection, as a poem. Each painting is a stanza in that poem that, hopefully, further describes what it may mean to be painted, shared and seen, if only partially, as the sum of a set of datapoints.

36" x 60" - Oil on Canvas. Wired and ready to hang.
My current work is an exploration of colour, mark-making, and the relationship between figure and ground. Influenced by a sense of play and my experiences as an art educator at Bealart, I experiment with the elements of form and space. Compositions are driven by the interplay of colour and texture, where marks serve as both a gesture and an invitation to discover the unexpected.
