ABOUT - Michelle Barkway

A woman with long brown hair wearing a brown apron painting on a piece of art at a wooden table in an art studio with shelves and art supplies behind her.

Michelle is a biologist-turned-artist living on Vancouver Island. Her paintings are endlessly inspired by her home on the coast, surrounded by ancient cedars and the cold Pacific Ocean. She lives and paints in Victoria BC with her husband, two teenage boys and two dogs (you guessed it, also boys).

My paintings are inspired by the diverse landscapes of Vancouver Island and the West. In them you’ll find sandy beaches and rocky shores, ancient cedars and towering mountains.

I work primarily with acrylic on canvas. Through a combination of unique, geometric shapes and vibrant colour blocking I create depth and patterns of light.

If you love a life lived outdoors, you’re in the right place. If the coast feels like home, whether you live here or not, you’re in the right place. If you’re looking to add some calm and wonder to your life, you’re in the right place.
